Derek is an American designer, illustrator, and writer of silly books. His work teeters between fanciful charm and simple sophistication. It combines his lifelong love of creating with a nearly twenty year career as a commercial artist. His work has been used by universities, small businesses, ad agencies, coffee shops, bands, theaters, non-profits, and Fortune 500 companies.
Although he grew up next to graveyards in eerie Ohio, he now resides in sunny San Diego with his wife and three children. The weather is as nice as you might imagine, but he is in constant want of crisp autumns and the need to dress in layers. Beyond his creative endeavors; he enjoys singing bad renditions of 80s songs, watching Cary Grant movies, sipping on black coffee, and making pretentious popcorn.
